CLTEF's Big "3"The Barnersville Community LibraryWe have identified where the greatest need for a community library is in Liberia. A trip to Liberia in July 2010 confirmed that Barnersville Estate is that place. Barnersville is a community comprised of growing families. At the heart of CLTEF's purpose is accomodating the needs of children in this area. The library will be available to all, free of charge. After meeting with the managing staff of Olathe Public Library, CLTEF saw it fitting to model Barnersville Community Library after the Indian Creek Branch in Olathe, Kansas. Olathe Public Libraries offer a unique array of programs that CLTEF hopes to implement in Barnersville Estate. Amongst reading programs, babysitting classes and family fun nights, children, teens and parents will have plenty of ways to expand their world. This project provides an avenue to reach out to our community. Through LOPI, Kansas City's girls ages 11-17 will build self esteem, establish leadership skills, volunteer and acquire social etiquette. We also work to instill a passion to serve others. A lady is never too young to understand the importance of self-worth and service. Your daughter will make life-long friendships that will serve her wonderfully as she ages. J. Edmond Weeks Memorial Library at Zoe-Louise Preparatory SchoolCLTEF values friendship. Our partnership with ZLPS extends a 10-year period. ZLPS is a primary school in Barnersville Estate that admits boys and girls from pre-school to sixth grade. The school has come a long way. Before Liberia's 1996 civil war, ZLPS met in a rented building in Barnersville. Principal Zoe Reynolds saw a greater potential. In 2006, she acquired land and began building her own school. Today, the school educates over 900 students per year. It is one of the few operating elementary schools in the area. Zoe Reynolds' love for education excites CLTEF. She made it a point to build a library for her students, an action not common in the area. CLTEF has vowed to bring her school's library up to standard. Through our efforts, the J. Edmond Weeks Memorial Library willl eventaully have plenty of books, computers, tables and many other resources.
